Intern in Elem. & Secondary Spec Ed (SPD 499)

Description

This internship prepares education majors planning to teach in elementary and early childhood education classrooms with the opportunity to observe, record, and assess students' behaviors, developmental levels and skills in order to plan appropriate instructional programs and learning environments. Students will write lesson plans and develop culturally- and developmentall- appropriate integrated units that reflect learning styles, promote self-esteem, and encourage self-directed learning. This internship provides opportunities for developing effective communication skills, parent-teacher conferencing skills, as well as working with students, parents, and professionals. This internship is progressively sequenced to give students the opportunity to assume complete responsibility of a classroom while under the supervision of a classroom teacher in an approved elementary school, the cooperating teacher, and the university supervisor of student teaching.
