EC Special Education Practicum (SPD 498)

Description

This practicum course provides teacher candidates hands on experience working with young children with special needs in a variety of educational settings, including self-contained and full inclusion day care programs and early childhood classrooms. Theoretical models are integrated with real-life situations, and candidates are afforded opportunities for supervised practice. Candidates will assist in the planning and implementation of strategies for young children with special needs. Collaborative work will include working with families and other special education professionals. Particular emphasis is given to experiences that help increase candidates? observation, assessment and intervention planning skills that are culturally sensitive towards the unique needs of families with young children with special needs. (Prerequisites: SPD 400; SPD 402; EDU 335; SPD 406; SPD 407; SPD 408; SPD 409 and SPD 420) Summer
