Description

This course provides beginning coding practices sufficient to support the learner's acquisition of entry-level ICD-9-CM coding appropriate to hospital systems, including, community-based, governmental, tribal, and international facilities. Concepts included are ethical coding practices, compliance mandates and the validation of clinical information, proper sequencing, case mix/severity of illness data, prospective payment systems, critical care systems, health care reimbursement and reimbusement optimization. This course utilizes computer-based learning opportunities and has a lab component. (Fall). Prerequisites: BIO 221 HIT 102, HIT 176, HIT 195. (Concurrent with BIO 210 and PHM 101).
