Description

This course provides beginning skills in the area of ambulatory and physician coding practices sufficient to support the learner's acquisition of entry-level CPT-4 and HCPCS coding guidelines. Competencies are gained for both manual and electronic coding (3M) systems. This course also introduces the learner to managed care and reimbursement methodologies and concepts. Concepts emphasized include correct code assignment, ethical coding practices, compliance mandates, the validation of clinical information, proper modifier usage, evaluation and management codes, prospective payment systems, and reimbursement for health care services and supplies. This course utilizes computer-based learning opportunities and has a lab component. Prerequisites: BIO 220, , HIT 102, HIT 176, HIT 195
