Description

This course provides beginning, intermediate, and advanced coding practices sufficient to support the learner's acquisition of entry-level CPT-4 and HCPCS coding and reimbursement competencies appropriate to private, corporate, community-based, governmental, tribal, and international health care facilities. Ambulatory coding and reimbursement systems, including hospital-based ambulatory coding are studied in this course. Concepts included are ethical coding practices, compliance mandates, the validation of clinical information, proper modifier usage, evaluation and management codes, prospective payment systems, and reimbursement for health care services and supplies. This course utilizes computer-based learning opportunities and has a lab component. Prereq: BIO 220, BIO 221, HIT 101, HIT 102, HIT 104, HIT 106, HIT 211. (Spring) Campus-based and On-Line
