Description

This course emphasizes the correct coding initiatives and compliant reimbursement methodologies relevant to hospital-based professional practice standards for community-based, governmental, tribal, and international facilities. It supports the acquisition of entry-level ICD-9-CM coding and reimbursement skills. This course includes ethical coding practices, compliance mandates, and validation of clinical information, proper sequencing, case mix/severity of illness data, prospective payment systems, health care reimbursement and reimbursement optimization. This course utilizes computer-based learning opportunities and has a lab component. Prereq: BIO 220, 221, HIT 101,102, 104, and 106. Campus based and On Line. (Fall)
