Description

This course will focus on plant systematics as illustrated by the study of variation within and relationship between selected families and orders of vascular plants. Students will be introduced to basic plant structure and function as well as the identification, collection, handling and preservation of specimens. The role of plants in the world ecosystem will be explored, including past and present cultural and economic uses for food, medicines, and industrial products. Plant identification, examples, and topics will focus on, but are not limited to, species found in the Northern Great Plains. (Fall)
