Description
This course is designed to give prospective teachers background and experience in providing effective instruction for students for whom Standard English is a second language and/or are considered Limited English Proficient (LEP). The development of a second language or dialect is a cognitively, linguistically, and culturally daunting task for many culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students. Teachers of CLD students are presented with the equally difficult job of creating learning environments to facilitate language development. This course will present a broad framework for understanding the political, legal, policy, and cultural dimensions of schooling for language learners. (Fall)
