Description

This course is designed to be an introductory overview of the principles of conservation biology, including those laws and policies that govern federal, state, local and native lands. This course integrates information from environmental policy, ecology, genetics, biogeography, economics and ethics towards preventing extinction and maintaining biological diversity. The course will introduce major federal and state statues and regulatory programs that govern environmental quality, pollution control and wildlife management, including legislative enactment, regulatory development, enforcement, federal/state/native relationship and judicial interpretation. Examples and topics will focus on both North American and International native cultures. Lectures will encompass a wide range of examples fromt he United States, Canada, Africa, Europe,a nd other countries. Discussion and independent readings are assigned to explore social and value implications. Prerequisites CSC 101, MTH 102, BIO
